“Intensity” - A Word that Describes Basketball Playoffs!

I’m a learner - My brain is constantly in a state of “Oh wow, I didn’t know about that. Tell me more!” So, it’s unusual that I find out about something and am absolutely shocked. Yesterday, I was.

I was on my Twitter feed, happily perusing the general goings-on in the Twitter world, when I was stopped dead on my tracks by this tweet:

@DarrylLeeSang: Three down, thirteen to go! #LETSGOHEAT

I almost dropped my iphone. Do the math my friends! That’s 16! Now, I know, there are a few assumptions that come with my reaction to this non-specific tweet. First off, I’m assuming that @DarrylLeeSang is talking about the Miami Heat in the NBA playoffs - I’m pretty sure he’s not cheering on a thermometer! Secondly, I’m assuming that by saying that there are “Three down” that the Heat have won three games. If all of these assumptions are correct, this leaves me with a final truth - A basketball playoff consists of 16 games and you must win them all to be a champion!

People! That is a lot of games to have a perfect record for just to win a trophy! I’m trying to imagine all 5-20 teams that are in the playoffs playing 16 times each! I mean, no wonder it takes up 2-3 months of the year! I was absolutely shocked to find out this fact. In Football, you play a few times and before you know it, you’re in the Superbowl. In golf, you go around for a week playing the course here and there, and then voila, you’re a Master with a green jacket! These poor basketball players are huffing and puffing for months until they can finally buckle down and play the championship! So for that, I tip my Mets baseball cap to you basketball players. You guys are real sports about this playoffs thing.
