Tennis: Pretty Big in the Female Community!

Nadal

Tennis is a sport that some people REALLY love - and by some people, I mean some women. There are not many sports/sporting events that men AND women can genuinely enjoy together. It’s a real shame because women make up half of the world! That’s a huge demographic that sports is not capitalizing on! Luckily, tennis seems to slowly be making the crossover and women out there are really expressing the love. Recently I’ve noticed a large amount of status updates on my Facebook that support this theory:

Nicole Desplat

Really impressed by Marion Bartoli’s performance today against Serena today.

Now, I’m not sure who Marion Bartoli is - at first I thought she was a chef. But if you continue to read the post you’ll see the name Serena - this is Serena Williams she is talking about! I’ve seen her in the magazines! Nicole is talking about tennis and Marion is a tennis player! Nicole is also expressing an understanding of the sport, which is evident because she knows Serena’s track record and is impressed that Marion (apparently) did better than she did. Here is another status update about tennis:

Ana M. Nazario

Breakfast !!! French Open men finals Rafa vs. Roger !!! this should be a classic!!!

In this status update, Ana is referring to a tennis match that happened against Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. She obviously has a lot of knowledge on the sport because she is calling the players by their first names - she feels like she knows them because she’s watched them play a bunch of times! And finally, there’s this post:

Jacqueline Barredo

Federer

A simple “Federer” courtesy of Jacqueline Barredo. This one, for me, is the most passionate because she did not feel the need to explain herself. She took a side (Federer’s side) and she expressed it to the world. I’m not sure about the results of the match that Jacqueline was talking about, but the subsequent “sad face” comment makes me think that the outcome was not so good.

And there you have it; women are interested in tennis right now! Way to go ladies and way to go Tennis Federation! You’re all building bridges!
