7 Yr Old to Play Pro Soccer

soccer kid

I was just tipped off by my husband, who was tipped off by an Ashton Kutcher tweet, that a 7 year old from Argentina was signed by the Madrid soccer team. Can we all say, YOWZAH’S?!?! Apparently the kid is set to begin soccer practices on September 6th of this year. <—-That is a factual statement! After I read that I thought to myself: Is this journalism source trying to tell me that on September 6th this kid is going to show up to practice and kick balls and run around the field with 20-30 something year old men? Yes, that is what the source is trying to tell me and that just doesn’t seem right!

Lets take a moment and think about the things that you as a 7 yr old are likely to experience:

  • You start 2nd grade
  • You advance to the coach pitch level in little league baseball
  • You learn to ride a bike without training wheels
  • You have your first pizza party - like for your birthday or something
  • You go to Disney for the 2nd or 3rd time - but this is the first time your future self  will actually have memories of the trip.
  • You get your first cell phone (jk - so topical!)
  • You’re reading level is low, but heck, at least you’re reading!

No where on that list does it say “You get signed to play pro soccer”! It’s absurd. Why? Because you can barely read your contract, much less understand the advanced vocabulary that will probably affect you in the future!

I wish the best of luck to little Leo (the 7 yr old - that’s his name). His schedule is just about to get super hectic and I truly hope he still has time to at least watch Cartoon Network! They’ve got a lot of great shows for kids.
