And So It Begins…

Last night was the first day of football 2011! Naturally, I inquired about where everyone was going to watch the game and I showed up for the first half. On my way there I had this feeling - the kind of feeling you get when you are going back to school and it’s your first day - like you’re lost and you don’t know where your class is.
I showed up to our local football hangout and met up with some friends. “Who’s playing?” I asked my friend, Rebekka. “The Saints”, she said. “Oh, because they won the Super Bowl last year? Who are they playing against?” I responded. “I don’t know, the Jets? Hey BJ, who is playing right now?”, she asked her husband. After a little back and forth, we settled on The Saints vs The Packers. “Great,” I thought, “Now that I’ve got all of my ducks in a row, I can watch the game.”
Through bites of my pizza and sips of beer, I saw The Saints’ quarterback throw the ball to another player. He caught it from a far distance and fell. It wasn’t a touchdown, but it got the ball close to the goal. The Saints were getting lots of touchdowns and everyone was cheering for them - crowd favorite I’m assuming. Then it hit me. As the quarterback threw the ball far and away once again, I saw the name on top of his number (whatever that may be). It read “Brees”. “Hmm, Brees”, I thought to myself, “Hey, isn’t that the guy I picked on my fantasy football team?” YES! IT WAS! So, to my surprise, the whole bar was cheering for my fantasy football player! Woohoo! What a treat!
After that I left. I heard from a friend that the Packers won, but that my quarterback did well. Supposedly, he got me lots of points. I’ll have to check my matchup at some point. Anyway, lets hear it for the beginning of the football season!
(The crowd in my mind cheers)
“To a healthy and exciting season full of fun plays and interesting player backstory!”
